* PURE EVIL resides within the Dark Sciences of the Art world, nestled neatly somewhere between graffiti and Brit Shock. He assassinates popular iconography, dosing it with political satire and populating it with infamous despots and dictators. The ideas tread a fine line between the subversive and the nerdy and in doing so create a comfortable stage from which he snowballs his audience with highly charged critiques on the state of both World affairs and other intergalactical issues concerning Alderon and Hoth. Not shy of confrontation he embraces the chance to shock with elan . This is very modern graffiti at it's freshest and most humorous, and if you don't love the âPanda's Rockâ print; then your heart is black and made of sewage.
** Ben EINE is one of London's most prolific and original street artists having started his career over twenty five years ago as a common vandal, he has toned and developed his unique style into something which has been described as "the Fiona Rae of graffiti and spray paint". Eine specializes in producing huge letters on shop fronts across London, it has recently been said that "...Eine is doing for letters of the alphabet what Banksy did for rats and smiley policemen".... whatever that means.
Eine's work has been exhibited in New York, Tokyo and all over Europe including V1 in Copenhagen and Colette in Paris. His painting commissions have also taken him worldwide to as far away as Israel, Australia and India. Born 1970, Ben Eine lives and works in London.
*** NELLY DUFF is c**kney rhyming slang for LIFE⦠Duff rhymes with puff, puff meaning breath, as in âbreath of lifeâ. Which is where the phrase â...not on yer nelly!â originates. As far as we know Miss Duff was a tattooed, arm wrestling pin-up girl, who walked the streets at night in a hoodie. THE NELLY DUFF dusty old gallery is situated on the very lovely Columbia Road (150 year old flower market street) in Shoreditch, East London. Purveyors of the finest in street art and working with the streets best Artists to devolp stand out work. Come and say Hi on a Sunday morning (bring your hangover - we donât mind) and enjoy a bagel and a bunch of daffs too. submitted by on Fri, 2007-11-30 10:08 IN THE CUT December 7 - 16, 2007
Opening Reception: Friday, December 7, 6-9 p.m.
Donkey Gallery
1415 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM
(505) 242-7504
Albuquerque, NM - Donkey Gallery is pleased to announce IN THE CUT, an open call stencil jam, December 7th through December 16th, with opening reception Friday, December 7, from 6-9 pm. Donkey Gallery is issuing an open call for artists interesting in submitting stencils for this all out wall covering show. With the rise of cultural consciousness of street art, stencils are playing a larger role in the low brow DYI neo-American aesthetic. Because of the material constraints of a contiguous piece of paper, which renders a graphic high contrast image, stencils are the stiff, austere sibling to more fluid athletic graffiti art. More premeditated, but quicker in application, stencils have a speed-read iconic nature that recommends them to more ironic and political messages.
IN THE CUT is an open call community wide event. Absolutely anyone can bring in a stencil of whatever they choose. Artists interested in more information should call or email David Leigh (505-463-3995/ david@donkeygallery.org).
There will be three different categories of organization for Donkey's three walls. One wall will feature a geometric design or skeleton on which artistic editors (to be announced) will attach walk in stencils. Another wall will be a specific design for which artists are issued shaped sheets of paper that will recombine to make a puzzle piece design. The third wall will be assigned to a collective group to do with as they see fit.
Donkey is very excited about its newest community-wide open call show. As in the past, the outcome is absolutely up in the air, and as ever, the expectations are high. submitted by on Thu, 2007-11-22 05:38 I'm giving thanks for friends and family this year, as well as all of the people who stand up and fight for justice and equality. Especially the Diné grandmothers of Black Mesa who survive the oppression of their own Navajo government. And their defiance against Peabody coal (and Big Coal in general).

http://www.electronicmusic.net/ submitted by on Wed, 2007-10-31 08:37 Was reading an interesting article/interview about LSD pioneer chemist Owsley "the Bear" Stanley and hopped over to his site for further reading. In 1969, Stanley and artist Bob Thomas worked out the Grateful Dead logo to mark the band's equipment (here's his story). At first, it was just the three-colored lightening bolt, and was used as a stencil.
In the account, Stanley describes how it became a stencil:
"At the warehouse I told Bob the idea that I had, and he made a quick sketch. A mutual friend, Ernie Fischbach, who was visiting with Bob, said 'Give it to me, I'll show you an easy way to put it on the boxes.' Whereupon he proceeded to cut holes in a couple of pieces of stencil paper. One was a circular hole, about 5 1/2 inches in diameter, and the other was a part of a circle 5 inches in diameter. But it was a half circle with a jagged edge. Then he held the stencil to an amp and sprayed a circle of white paint. Then with one side up, the red half circle went on top of the dried white paint and after wiping off the red and turning the stencil over, the blue was applied. This was the first version, and we put it on to all our gear. It helped make it easier to find our stuff in the crunch. I still have an old toolbox with one of the stencils on it." submitted by on Thu, 2007-10-25 03:53 KQED's vidcast Gallery Crawl spotlights art that doesn't hang on gallery walls. Some great shots of stencil art, as well as other forms of street art, here in San Francisco.
Note: The two stencil murals featured in this video are not by Scott Williams. Got that one wrong on both accounts (Scott's stencils are in the second one, along with Claude Moller, Stephen Lambert, Josh MacPhee, and others). The first stencil mural is by Claude Moller, Josh MacPhee, along with myself. You can see part of Scott's amazing mural while they're featuring Clarion Alley works.
Update: Hi Russell: Sarah Skikne passed on the email (below) regarding the misinformation in our Streets of San Francisco Gallery Crawl episode. Sorry it took so long for me to correct the error -- I was out of town due to a death in the family. Anyhow, I have corrected the video and that new version is online now, reflecting the artists you mentioned in your email.
From KQED's Web site:
After two years of shooting exhibitions in various Bay Area galleries, Gallery Crawl goes outdoors to highlight art that just cannot be contained. From large public sculptures to the smallest sticker, art can be found in just about every nook and cranny of the city.
A San Francisco Arts Commissioner as well as an artist and a professor at the San Francisco Art Institute, Przyblyski explains the process of how larger works like Claes Oldenburg & Coosje van Bruggen's "Cupid's Span" and Richard Serra's "Ballast" get commissioned. She also discusses how smaller things -- like stenciled phrases on the sidewalk and crochet covers on abandoned bike locks -- position the urban landscape as a communal meeting place where creative expression exists in both "permissioned" and "non-permissioned" forms.
While this episode is by no means comprehensive, we hope it will provide a small taste of what's out on the street (sometimes literally). Is it art? Is it vandalism? Is it beautiful? Is it visual clutter? These are questions we don't even attempt to answer, but its presence -- in myriad forms -- makes urban living that much more interesting. submitted by on Wed, 2007-10-24 03:02 Fresh Files, avoiding heat and Cali Fires......

If they are available and you want one then I recommend you buy it. Things tend to sell out in minutes on this site. Probably be for US buyers only - they don’t seem to like people who live in the civilized world.
